PROFESSOR FILIPE JERRY
BLACK BELT 5TH DEGREE & HEAD INSTRUCTOR
BIO
Since childhood, I faced challenges due to being overweight, lacking athleticism, and having an overly protective mother. Bullying was common in the 80s and 90s, and memories of embarrassing situations linger. Seeking empowerment, I turned to various martial arts, but it was Jiu-Jitsu that changed everything. Starting at 13, I trained with a focus on competing, earning numerous titles. My journey took a significant turn when teaching became part of it. Despite initial resistance, I pursued Jiu-Jitsu as a career, opening academies worldwide.
In 2004, armed with determination, I traveled to Europe with minimal resources, winning the European championship and teaching across the continent. The struggle continued, but by 2007, I opened my academy in the USA. Family and professional life flourished, with the joy of fatherhood. Passion for teaching intensified, especially after witnessing a student’s transformative weight loss journey. Life seemed perfect, yet a personal realization led me back to Brazil, opening academies and contributing to the community.
In 2017, it was time for a new chapter. I moved to the U.S., facing challenges that led to the development of my academy, only to be disrupted by the pandemic. Faced with uncertainty, I adapted by introducing online classes, witnessing unexpected student enthusiasm. The benefits of at-home training became evident, emphasizing self-defense and fitness.
This journey, marked by resilience, teaching, and unexpected turns, showcases the transformative power of Jiu-Jitsu, influencing not only my life but also the lives of those I’ve taught.
